Bio

Born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, Leah Thompson learned to draw as an outlet as a child. From creating picture books to sketching doodles, art was a necessity for her happiness and a source of pure joy. She was encouraged throughout her career by a devoted family.

A self-taught artist, Leah uses wood, charcoal, and sometimes paint to create realistic portraits and abstract works for collectors and lovers of art. Working with charcoal pencils allows for a level of detail and depth that draws the eye, and rough wood canvases work in tandem with the medium to create vibrant pieces. Leah’s personal work seeks to visually express the deep connection she feels to her culture and the essence of nature; she finds beauty in the depth of the oft unspoken relationship between the soul and the natural world.

Artist Statement

My favorite book growing up was about a woman who lived by the sea. She wanted to leave the world a more beautiful place than how she found it, so she sprinkled flower seeds behind her everywhere that she traveled. I am a self-taught illustrator and fine artist, creating works that reflect the enduring love and energy I hope to put into the world. When I look to the past, I'd like to see the flowers I've planted.
