Bio

Ana Sneeringer is a Slovenian self-taught artist. Having realized her passion for drawing and painting while moving around the world in the last 10 years, she started an artistic career a bit later in her life. Having no professional art training gives her the encouragement and freedom to simply create from her heart instead of trying to find a balance between educational training and personal expressions.

Before she proceeded with an art career, she was engaged in documentary journalism. Her moving to Jordan, France, Russia, the USA, The Dominican Republic, and now in India was an experience of gathering emotional information on cultures for later expression.

Traveling to a foreign country is one of the best ways to step outside your established comfort zone. Living now and then in different countries is even better. The fear of facing unfamiliarity and experiencing culture shock deters many from starting their journey.

Sneeringer started painting in the Dominican Republic. Her art there was a mixture of emotional cultural shock expressed through abstract art, but shortly after she found herself in connection with the portraits. Moving from the Dominican Republic to the Netherlands, her artwork resembled watercolor portraits, carrying deep thoughtful meaning. Since then, Ana has been fascinated with the attitude a woman’s face conveys.

In 2018, she moved with her family to India, where she currently lives and works. Her medium in India became acrylic paints, bold colors, and even stronger female portraits, representing her own feelings.

Her inspirations are people and herself. Listening to her own feelings when she is confronted with a situation or a person gives her inspiration to portray the emotions she wants to overcome. She wants her viewers to see all possible emotions in the facial expressions of her portraits we carry as humans towards different life events.

Artist Statement

I draw and paint portraits of ladies with attitude. Apart from myself, my inspirations are women around the world. For some of them, I was lucky to meet and know personally, while others are just women who I came across in pictures by photographers I find online. My art is a reflection and an expression of my attitude towards my own life. I paint which emotions I am facing and living in the moment.

My protagonists are women with strong character and energy who express raw emotions and aren’t afraid to show their genuine and natural personality. My portraits represent quirky and unique ladies of real life, enjoying or learning to enjoy themselves by accepting themselves as unity and converting this realization into the superior power of proudness and achievability. We can’t run from the daily emotions we face. I need to capture and express these feelings through my portraits to show the world how strong humans are, and especially women.

My work speaks the language of the country I live in. My home at his moment is India. Living here makes me spin around in many directions – from laughter to frustration. Living in such a colorful country as India, you definitely cannot ignore the vibrant environment surrounding you. As such, I developed an absolute love of lively and bold colors in combination with always loving black and white, which helps me bring more empowerment towards women.
