What inspired you to create the work you showcased in the 'Chroma' exhibition?

My inspiration comes from being present in my environment. Every time I go for a walk, I am always collecting photos and potential references for painting. While some of my paintings stem from an immediate reaction to being in nature or are created on the spot, this particular piece was one that I was drawn to later when revisiting my photos. As I reflect on my travels, sketches, and photographs, I notice a sense of familiarity and an inclination to translate a place into color and marks.

Can you share some insights into your creative process? Where do you draw inspiration from when it comes to your color choices?

One element that remains consistent in my process is starting with a colored ground, often a vivid and intense hue. The most premeditated aspect of my painting process is the color palette. I accumulate various color palette ideas, and prior to commencing this painting, I had already planned out the palette, accompanied by some basic sketches. The subsequent steps involve relying on intuition and allowing the process to guide me.

How did your chosen medium enhance your ability to convey the color in your artwork?

Oil paint is a captivating medium that empowers me to explore a multitude of color possibilities. Colors come alive through the translucent application of paint combined with the opacity that contributes depth to my artwork.

What message do you intend to convey to viewers and collectors when they engage with your art?

As a painter, my chosen medium becomes my language for communicating without words, expressed purely through brushstrokes and gestures. Each mark, varying brushstroke thickness, and the manner in which something is painted narrates a story, and it's crucial to observe and sense that presence. I also hope that my audience can emotionally connect with my work and establish a personal resonance.

What projects are you currently undertaking and eagerly anticipating this season?

At present, I am eagerly looking forward to engaging in plein air painting whenever an opportunity arises. Even if I'm not painting on location, I aim to consistently carry my sketchbook, enabling me to hone my observational skills while continually gathering inspiration. My aspiration is to produce new pieces saturated with fluorescent colors and evoking strong emotions.
