Artist Lindsay Kovnat

"Temporary Sanctuary" is a unique series of 10-12 surreal oil and acrylic paintings adorned with bright and day-glow colors. Handcrafted 3D frames add a mesmerizing dimension to the artworks, accompanied by spiritual garden statue-like sculptures. The exhibition draws inspiration from Mexican wood sculptures, female surrealists such as Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo, as well as contemporary pop culture, Chinese astrology, Indian art, and Buddhism.

The series is a vivid portrayal of Lindsay's inner and outer journey during the isolation brought about by the pandemic. Her art explores the metaphoric and imaginative world where house-cats, plants, and bewildered frogs reign supreme. Influenced by garden nomes, lions, and Buddha statues she encountered during walks, Lindsay’s artworks illustrate the powerful impact of mindfulness and the search for a local community amidst the isolation.
