Using textiles, sculpture, installation and printmaking techniques Samar Hejazi’s artworks explore the possibilities of expanding the internalized boundaries of meaning-making. She draws inspiration from various craft traditions and employs elements such as light, shadow, reflection and movement to create immersive multidimensional experiences through which she investigates the ever-shifting nature of perception in reality.In 2013, Samar earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media from Ryerson University in Toronto. She has participated in several group exhibitions, including "As They Gaze Upon Us" at Warehouse 421 in Abu Dhabi, in 2021, and "On Other Monuments" at the Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto in 2021. Samar has also held solo exhibitions such as "An Unravelling" at the Plumb gallery in association with the Toronto Palestine Film Festival. In 2022, she showcased "Geometries of Difference" at the Open Studio Project Space in Toronto, and in 2023, she presented "Illusions of Separation" at the Aurora Cultural Centre. Furthermore, Samar will be participating in "Ghostly Makers," a group exhibition at Burnaby Art Gallery in Burnaby, British Columbia in July 2023.In 2021, Samar was featured on the cover of Blackflash Magazine and appeared in Studio Magazine's spring issue in 2023. She has an upcoming feature in Create! Magazine scheduled for the summer of 2023. Her artworks are part of multiple international private collections.
