Janet Taylor Pickett is a mixed media artist based out of Pasadena, California. Utilizing the dress form as a central metaphor within her work, she incorporates collage, assemblage, sculptural elements, site specific installation and painting into her artistic practice, which she views as experiential and collaborative. Each work tells a story meant to inform and inspire, chronicling her journey as an African American woman, daughter, mother, and artist, while shedding light on universal truths.

Janet Taylor Pickett was born in 1948 in Michigan. She attended The University of Michigan School of Art and Design. From there she graduated with a BFA and then went to Graduate School to receive a MFA, also from the University of Michigan. She has also studied at Parsons School of Design, FIT, and the Vermont Studio School. She is the recipient of various awards and honors, and her work is in numerous private and public collections. US Senator and Presidential candidate Kamala Harris is a passionate fan of Janet’s artwork.
