Ella Woodbridge Studio

Graduating from Manchester School of Art with a Ba (Hons) in Fine Art 2022, Ella Woodbridge’s work encapsulates memories into painterly space, producing window-like surfaces for a viewer to become immersed in and perceive as they instinctively intend. Blending figurative and architectural forms to create ambiguous, large- scale oil paintings, Woodbridge paints as a way of interpreting her findings and surroundings. Bringing imagery from the past together to set scenes and suggest narrative, her work has photographic elements linking back to her subject matter. This link is also an insight into her perception of painting and photography alike. Her fluid mark-making, alongside the natural drip of turpentine, is a combination of controlled and free- flowing painting, where the paint has freedom to make its own choices within limits.
