Brea, California —The Brea Gallery is currently accepting submissions for their annual Made in California Juried Exhibition through February 18th, 2021 open to all California artists working in all mediums.

This annual juried exhibit showcases artwork from all over the state of California. Made in California strives to highlight artists in all stages of their careers and offers them a chance to compete for a number of awards, including the coveted solo show opportunity. This regional show features artwork from an extensive variety of mediums and explores creative movements happening in California. Exhibition dates are slated for April 24 - June 18, 202. In the event that the Gallery won’t be open to the public due to health regulations, a virtual tour and additional programming will be available online.

When the Gallery closed in March of 2020 due to the COVID19 pandemic it was just as the 2020 exhibition was about to be installed. The staff made a commitment to move forward with new safety procedures in place and after each artist was contacted and confirmed they were onboard with changing the dates of the exhibit and still participating. Originally slated to open April 25th through June 19th, the summer show was bumped (reschedule to 2021) and Made in California opened July 18th 2020. While museums and galleries opened and then closed, then opened again there was a small window of time to share this incredible show.

“We committed to hanging this exhibit,” says Gallery Director Heather Bowling, “The collection of art that our juror and juror panel selected, not just because we wanted to move forward, but we also didn’t want to disappoint the accepted artists as well as our followers who look forward to this annual show and have for 35 years.”

This year’s exhibition for 2021 will be juried and awarded by a panel comprised of Brea Gallery Director Heather Bowling, and Curatorial Staff. They are excited to hand out over $2,200 in cash prizes for awards including First, Second, Third Place, Mayor’s Choice, Staff Picks and more!

Entries to this juried exhibit are just $20, with no limit to the number of entries that an artist may submit. Brea Residents and Gallery Members are allowed one free entry into the juried show.

Unique to typical juried exhibitions, artists can also submit for a highly coveted Solo Show opportunity. The one artist selected will have their exhibit run alongside the greater juried show this spring, featuring their own title wall and showcard. To qualify for consideration for the Solo Show, artists must submit a cohesive body of work containing between 5 and 10 pieces. Works not selected for the Solo Show will be individually considered for inclusion in the Juried Show.

Previous participants share their experience with the exhibition, Santa Ana based photographer Juliana Rico says “The Brea Gallery is a gorgeous exhibition space made even better by a professional, caring, and hardworking staff. The entire process from submitting, to work drop off, to the reception, and uninstall was easy and clear. I hope to continue to show work at the Brea Gallery for many years!”
