Windy Lampson, Painter

Windy Lampson was born on January 7, 1981 in Goldsboro NC and lived there for 17 years before leaving for college, 42 miles away. She married her high school sweetheart, and they have two sons.

In 2003, she graduated from East Carolina University with a dual major in Studio Art and Art Education, and in 2005, she received an MFA in painting from ECU.  After teaching elementary art for a year in Orlando, FL and another year in Richmond, VA, Lampson quit teaching to work full-time as an artist. She and her husband moved back to NC and settled in Burlington.

For two years, Lampson worked steadily as an artist, selling her paintings online and through local galleries. Then came the 2008 recession. Her first son was born in January of 2009 and art sales had dramatically decreased. Needing a more dependable income, she accepted a position teaching high school art at Graham High School in NC.

After the first challenging 3-5 years, her artistic process began to creep into her design of lesson planning, assessment and pedagogy. In 2021, she was named Teacher of the Year at Graham High School for the 2nd time and became a finalist at the county level. In the same year, she became a National Board Certified Teacher and a Certified Canvas Educator. In 2022, she continues to juggle her roles as wife, mother, teacher and artist while embarking on a new series of paintings. Follow her on Instagram to see them as they're created!
